The artist
SHON MC is the Tajik rapper Shahboz Sharipov, written Шаҳбоз Шарипов in the original. Radio Ozodi introduced him in its own interview on 24 January 2014. The conversation is a historical source about his beginnings and writing; details from that period are not presented as his current biography.
Music to explore
In the interview, he says he began making rap with friends in 2008. Early recordings were made at home and circulated from phone to phone. He also describes creating lyrics spontaneously from stories people tell him, linking that ability to an interest in literature at school.
Production and development
SHON MC explains that he takes different roles in songs to give people facing difficult circumstances a voice. A narrator’s story is therefore not automatically autobiography. The interview suggests a useful question for listening: whose perspective does the narrator adopt, and what story does the song carry?
